Oracle DVD v12.2.0 - Installation

Oracle released new version of Oracle Data Visualization Desktop ( V12.2.0) and is available from OTN for download.

As per Oracle doc, the new features include new Visualization types - chord, circular network, list, network, parallel coordinates, sankey, timeline, and tree -, includes BI Ask and improved Visualizsation coloring and Exporting Visualization output to PDF and Power Point.

Installation

Installation of the Oracle DVD is a breeze, just download the software from OTN and unzip it.  Double click the executable to start installation, provide the destination directory when prompted for installation. 

When complete, Click Finish.  This will launch Oracle DVD

R Advanced Analytics

The installation comes with a sample project and has the optional installation of "R Advanced Analytics".  

To install the advanced analytics, launch the installer from Start => Oracle DVD Home => Install Advanced Analytics

OR

Navigate to the folder where Oracle DVD is installed and launch the installer:

This will start installing R Analytics

Wait for the installer to finish installation successfully.

Sample Project

Oracle DVD installation comes with a pretty decent Sample Project with several examples for advanced visualizations.  To view the sample project, launch Oracle DVD and from the Home Page launch the Sample Project.

At a first glance, the layout of the DVD tool is tidied up a bit:

• Now all the elements related to building a project are in one place as 3 tabs - Prepare, Visualize and Narrate
• Icons have been resized 
• Some of the options are grouped together and available on clicking the "Canvas Settings" Icon
